Dr. Anita Borg (1949-2003) devoted her adult life to revolutionising the way we think about technology and dismantling barriers that keep women and minorities from entering computing and technology fields. Her combination of technical expertise and fearless vision continues to inspire and motivate countless women to become active participants and leaders in creating technology.

As part of their ongoing commitment to encouraging women to excel in computing and technology, Google have announced the 2009 Google Global Community Scholarship to help students attend the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference in Tucson, Arizona on September 30 - October 3, 2009.

Google has paired with UNCF to encourage students to continue their education and excel in the fields of computing and technology. Through its scholarship, Google hopes to remove the financial barriers that prevent many African Americans from pursuing degrees in the fields of computer science and computer engineering. Selected students will receive a $5,000 scholarship to go towards a graduate degree. They will also be invited to attend the retreat at Google headquarters in California. The AISES Google Scholarship will fund scholarships awards to American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian AISES members pursuing degrees in the computer science, computer engineering and management information systems. AISES and Google support the advancement of American Indian and Alaska Native students working towards obtaining a degree in the fields computer science and technology so they can obtain the necessary skills to compete in today's global society.

Her technical expertise inspired women to work in and excel at positions that were generally occupied by males. To continue Anita's work, Google has introduced the Google Anita Borg Scholarship. Through the scholarship, Google hopes to encourage women to become leaders and role models in the fields of computing and technology.

Google have released information of the Google Europe Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship 2009, which aims to encourage women to excel in computing and technology, and become active role models and leaders.

Google has created this scholarship to encourage women to pursue and excel in the fields of computing and technology. The scholarship will assist students in attending the October Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference. The conference will include presentations by leading researchers and special sessions concentration on a female's role in technology. The Google Scholarship Program offers funds to students studying computer science or computer engineering who are juniors or seniors in college or pursuing a Master's or PhD.
