Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship support for students to achieve a high academic standard in a programme of study at the University of Waikato, excellence in a sporting code or the creative or performing arts, and to develop leadership qualities through a tailored leadership and personal development programme.
The scholarship may be extended for a further year or years up to the minimum time to complete the degree for which the scholar is enrolled. Such extension will be subject to the scholar’s satisfactory academic progress (a minimum of a B average in all papers undertaken) and sustained performance in the sporting code or in the creative or performing arts in which the scholar is involved.
The information provided in this application will be used solely for the purposes of assessing your eligibility and suitability for the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship. Personal information contained in this application will be made available to members of the Sir Edmund Hillary Selection Panel, members of the Sir Edmund Hillary Executive Group, members of the Scholarships Committee and staff of the Scholarships Office. The Selection Panel may consult on a confidential basis with representatives of relevant sporting or creative agencies to assess the standing of any achievements listed in your portfolio. Should you be offered a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship, information on your academic achievements will be made available to members of the Sir Edmund Hillary Executive Group during the tenure of your Scholarship.
The University of Waikato undertakes to store your application in a secure place in the event that you are successful in gaining an award or are selected as a reserve candidate for an award. The University of Waikato undertakes to destroy your application to preserve its confidentiality, in the event that you are unsuccessful in gaining an award. Should you have reason to believe that information held about you in either your application or your academic record is incorrect, you have the right of access to, and correction of, that information.
The University may contact the persons you have named in your application as referees for further information. Any such direct contact with these referees will be made on a strictly confidential basis. The University may not divulge details to you about the content of such confidential references without the written authorisation of the referee concerned.
