Iran-British Chevening Scholarship 2010/11

The British Embassy in Tehran is offering several Scholarships for Iranian Nationals to undertake postgraduate study in the UK during the academic year 2010/11. Applications are invited for study in all subject areas and are fully funded and cover course fees, living allowance and airfare. They are for postgraduate study of up to a maximum of twelve months. Most scholars undertake Masters Programmes, but awards to pursue short courses for between six to twelve months are also considered.
Please note that qualifications that last longer than 12 month are not supported by Chevening scholarships for Iran. This rule also applies to Mphil and PhD programs.
Application criteria
- Applicants should normally be between the ages of 25 and 35 years; but applications from all ages are welcome.
- Must have a four-year Bachelors degree with a minimum GPA of 16 out of 20 from any recognised university in Iran or the equivalent grade from an overseas institution. Candidates with a lower second degree but with impressive career achievements can still apply.
- Applicants with more than one qualification should provide details of all the degrees they have obtained during their higher education studies.
- Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
- Must have completed all military and official services or official service regulations.
- Applicants must have a very good level of English in order to cope with the demands of postgraduate study in the UK. Candidates should have an International English Language test (IELTS) score not lower than 6.5 or TOEFL of 95.
- Anyone who has received a British Government scholarship or training award within the last five years should not apply.
- Anyone who holds an Iranian scholarship or training award should not apply.
- Awardees are required to come back to Iran after completion of their programmes. If you wish to apply for a post-study work permit or a PhD in the UK following your studies then this scholarship is not suitable for you.

Applicants must complete the online application before 30 November 2009. No additional documents are required at the time of submitting the form.
Completion of application forms
Applicants are asked to complete the application form in full and should be able to provide additional documents upon request. The information on the application form is considered fully confidential.
Applicants should demonstrate that they have thought carefully about the chosen subject of study and qualification sought (e.g. Diploma, Masters). Applicants should state how a scholarship in the UK will help them achieve their career aspirations.
Applicants are encouraged to seek advice and information on universities and courses of study in the UK from available sites. Applicants able to identify appropriate courses and institutions should mention these in the application form. More education information for international students can be found on:

Applicants are encouraged to apply directly to universities in anticipation of obtaining an award. Applicants are expected to provide full details of any offer of admission received from UK higher education institution to study for 2010/2011 academic year.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Submission of applications
- The application form should be completed and submitted online. Any application form, sent to the British Embassy in Tehran by mail will not be considered for the awards.
- Any application submitted after 30 November 2009 will not be considered for the awards.
- Double applications will not be considered for the award.
