[United Kingdom] PhD Research in School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures

The University of Manchester is offering a range of awards for PhD research in September 2012 to which candidates working on topics in Linguistics and English Language are eligible to apply.

The three main awards, Which comprise a fee-bursary and a maintenance grant, are ESRC studentships in Linguistics, an AHRC studentship in Linguistics or English Language, and the University-funded President's Doctoral Scholar Awards. In addition, the School Of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures will offer a number of PhD fee bursaries.

[Canada] The McLean Award Program at University of Toronto

McLean Endowment supports outstanding basic research at the University of Toronto and provides extraordinary support to an outstanding researcher relatively early in his or her career by assisting the awardee to attract and support graduate students and post-doctoral fellows of great promise as part of his/her research team.

The award recipient will be known as the McLean Senior Fellow. Students and post-doctoral fellows receiving support from the Award will be known as McLean Graduate Fellows and McLean Post-doctoral Fellows, respectively.

The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships

The Swedish Institute Study Scholarships target highly-qualified students from the selected countries. In order to apply for a Swedish Institute Study scholarship the student must first be admitted to a Swedish university/university college.

[Netherlands] PhD Position in Electronic Health Records at University of Twente

Electronic health records (EHRs) are valuable for medical research and clinical trials. Researchers need EHRs to perform clinical trials on new medicines, for example. However, EHRs contain sensitive data and should not reveal the identity of the patient. Therefore EHRs must be anonymized or aggregated before they are released to the clinical investigators.

[Australia] Barbara Singer Environmental Studies Scholarship

The Northern Territory Office of Environment and Heritage has established, through the Charles Darwin University Foundation, the Barbara Singer Environmental Studies Scholarship to honour Ms Singer’s contributions during a career spanning more than thirty years, to environmental protection throughout the Territory. The scholarship is available to students enrolled full time in an environmental science course at Charles Darwin University.

[Sweden] Doctoral Grants in Biology at Lund University

The Lund University of Sweden offers Doctoral Grant to study adaptations to foraging and migration movements in of seabirds, such as lesser black-backed gull, common guillemots and razorbills. The project involves comparative work with seabirds of different species as well as at different locations. The movement patterns will be analyzed relative to winds, food availability, and topography as well as habitat type
